Students typically make the most errors when they are trying to understand how to write an essay on Russia and often do not try to tackle the subject by themselves. There are certain categories that need to be remembered in order to make the most of the essays that are written on Russia. It is important that students remember these lessons as they try to figure out their own Russian essay topics. The first lesson, students need to learn is that their writing should be informative. This means that they will have to write articles that talk about facts that matter to the person reading them, and they should know how to present these facts in a way that makes sense. While it is important to learn the importance of being factual, it is equally important to know how to tell a story in a manner that is interesting. This makes the essay interesting to read and helps to make it memorable. Essays that are too boring and are written without any flair are likely to be ignored by the readers, and thus will not get the information they need to.Students will also need to be careful about how they use the word 'important' when it comes to discussing important events in the past. In reality, history is rarely important enough to merit being called important, and therefore this is an area that students should avoid, and instead use words such as 'likely'possible.'Russia Essay Topics is hard because of the political history that has happened in Russia over the last century. Many students tend to forget about this history, and are only interested in the contemporary political changes, which is one of the worst mistakes that students can make.Students should remember that there are too many conflicting political and nationalistic ideas running through the country's politics, and this is something that students need to keep in mind as they write their essays. Students will also need to write about local political situations, as well as the history of the country, and how that relates to the current political situation. While Russian essay topics are often difficult, they do not have to be impossible. As students continue to study and learn more about the country, they will find that writing an excellent essay is not too difficult, and they will be able to make many decisions about the types of subjects they want to write about. charlesrussell19745http://www.blogger.com/profile/08045445613115422711noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8454395156892785921.post-54726216431023010702020-05-20T03:53:00.001-07:002020-05-20T03:53:04.446-07:00Reasons For Applying The Fourth Amendment - 2050 Words Criminal Procedure Mid Term 1. Identify and describe the three possible alternatives for applying the Fourth Amendment to ââ¬Å"stop and friskâ⬠situations. Also, identify which alternative the U.S. Supreme Court adopted and explain why. The three alternatives or interpretations that can be used for applying the fourth amendment of ââ¬Å"stop and friskâ⬠are: 1. The fourth amendment applies only to full searches and arrests; so short of full arrest and searches, officersââ¬â¢ discretion controls their contacts with individuals in public places. 2. Even brief street detentions are arrests, and pat downs are searches, so the police canââ¬â¢t do anything unless theyââ¬â¢ve got probable cause. 3. Stops and frisks are searches and seizures, so officers have to back them up with suspicious facts and circumstances. But, theyââ¬â¢re ââ¬Å"minorâ⬠ones, so they require fewer facts and circumstances than arrests and searches to back them up. (Samaha, 2015) They Supreme Court found that alternative 1 and 2 were unacceptable. Alternative 1 did not apply at all to street encounters and that people on the street are then subject to what and who ever any officer felt like. Alternative 2 was not in the best interest of the officer and if the officer could not take any action until they had probable cause their crime control would suffer and they may never see the suspects again. The U.S. Supreme Court adopted alternative 3. People hold to the belief that a raise to the minimum wage good for the economy or it is bad for the economy. The authors of ââ¬Å"the minimum wage debateâ⬠(Hassett Strain, 2013) would attempt to have us look at the debate in another way. In their article they use a number of rhetorical techniques on us to try and have the reader examine why they are in favor of a raise in the minimum wage. Are we in favor of the minimum wage increase because we believe it will truly help the American people or do we believe in it because we are told to by the government? The authors would like for the American people to rethink why they are so in favor of a raise in the minimum wage. They point out that while a raise sounds good in theory there is no evidence that it will help us raise anyone out of poverty. They also argue throughout the article that the differing political parties ar e in fact maneuvering us, the voters, to whom they would like for us to vote for by playing on our desire for more money. Finally they suggest that there are other methods to help the American people then raising the minimum wage. The authors are clearly writing towards the voting age American people. Jazz is an American music form that was developed from African-American work songs. The white man began to imitate them in the 1920's and the music form caught on and became very popular. Two artists that were influenced by jazz were Jean-Michel Basquiat and Stuart Davis. The influence is quite evident in many of their works, such as Horn Players, by Basquiat, and Swing Landscape, by Davis. Stuart Davis was born in Philadelphia in 1894. He grew up in an artistic environment, his father was art director of a Philadelphia newspaper, who had employed Luks, Glackens, and other members of the Eight. He studied with Robert Henri from 1910 to 1913, made covers and drawings for the social realist periodical The Masses, which was associated with the Ash-can School, and exhibited watercolors in the Armory Show, which made an overwhelming impact on him. After a visit to Paris in 1928 he introduced a new note into U.S. cubism, basing himself on its synthetic rather than its analytical phase. Using natural forms, particularly forms suggesting the characteristic environment of American life, he rearranged them into flat poster-like patterns with precise outlines and sharply contrasting colors. He later went on to pure abstract patterns, into which he often introduced lettering, suggestions of advertisements, and posters. The zest and dynamism of such works as Swing Landscape reflect his interest in jazz, which Davis considered to be the counterpart to abstract art. Davis is often considered to be the outstanding American artist to work in a cubism idiom. He made witty and original use of it and created a distinctive American style, for however abstract his works became he always claimed that every image he used had its source in observed reality. Davis once said " I paint what I see in America, in other words I paint the American scene." Stuart Davis?works of the late 1930's celebrate the urban and technological environment and are quite complex and frequently recall Legers's brightly coloured geometric forms. Early works depict saloons and ragtime musicians. Titles and images of his works in the 30's reflect syncopation and unusual rhythm of jazz, particularly swing. Jean-Michel Basquiat was born in 1960, four years before Stuart Davis?death. At an early age Basquiat showed an interest and love for drawing. His mother often took him to The Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. At the age of seven he and a friend of his wrote and illustrated a children's book. Basquiat was inspired by Alfred Hitchcock films, cars, comic books, and Alfred E. Newman from Mad Magazine. By the time he was seven he was an avid reader of French, Spanish, and English texts. In his teenage years Basquiat ran away from home often. He did not like obedience. By 1978 he was in with the "in crowd." The filmmakers and artists of New York. He enjoyed doing graffiti work using the name SAMO ( same old shit ). Basquiat's career was divided into three broad phases. From 1980 to 1982 he used painterly gestures, mostly skeletal figures that signal his obsession with mortality. He also used figures that represent street existence, such as policeman, buildings, and graffiti. From 1982 to 1985 he was using more phrases and words in his paintings. They reveal a strong interest in his black and hispanic identity and his identification with historical and contemporary black figures and events. The last phase was from 1986 until his death in 1988. His work displays a new type of figurative depiction, using different symbols, sources, and content. He was seeking a new territory in his work. When Basquiat's Horn Players and Davis?Swing Landscape are displayed side by side it is quite obvious that they were done by two different artist. In Swing Landscape it is not obvious that this piece was inspired by jazz, as where in Horn Players the influence of jazz is evident. These painters have two completely different styles but are inspired by the same types of things. They are inspired by society and music. They both appreciate the art value of music, especially jazz. Stuart Davis?Swing Landscape is quite colorful and vibrant. The colors give a feeling of jazz with the use of blues and cool colors. The use of the warm colors shows the unpredictability of jazz. There are many forms of geometric shapes used in this painting. The shapes used in this painting again show the unpredictability of jazz, as well as the vibrancy of that music form. charlesrussell19745http://www.blogger.com/profile/08045445613115422711noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8454395156892785921.post-86146314948133675622020-03-17T11:56:00.001-07:002020-03-17T11:56:02.723-07:00Should You Get a Second JobShould You Get a Second Job Not making enough to support your lifestyle? Need a little extra in the bank, or for your retirement account (itââ¬â¢s never too early!)? Here are 7 issues to weigh when asking yourself if you shouldà consider taking a second job. 1. Your Money SituationAre you drowning in debt from a big expense? Anticipating one soon? Or do you need a second job because your primary career isnââ¬â¢t paying you enough to live? If itââ¬â¢s the first thing, proceed. If itââ¬â¢s the second, think about changing jobs instead and shifting into something more lucrative. Otherwise, when contemplating a second job itââ¬â¢s best to make yourself a timeline of how long youââ¬â¢ll work that job to get yourself on more secure footing. Have an exit strategy in mind.2. Your Current Job SecurityIf youââ¬â¢re worried about your job security at your current job, now may be an ideal time to take on a second. Youââ¬â¢ll hedge your bets a bit. Just in case anything goes south at your first job , youââ¬â¢ll have a back up plan at least part-time to get you through.3. The Possible PerksSecond jobs can be chosen to benefit you. For example, if you love clothes or makeup or even furniture, a second job in retail can give you access to deep discounts on the stuff you buy the most. Thatââ¬â¢s two ways you end up richer. Alternatively, you could find a second job in your industry that can increase your skill set and marketability in the long run of your career.4. The Chance to LearnIf youââ¬â¢re contemplating a career or job change down the line, this is a great opportunity to get your feet wet and gain a little experience in another industry. A second job is like a paid internship, giving you a chance to explore your options without any serious commitment.5.à The Realities of Your ScheduleReally budget out your time and schedule- not just your paychecks and your bills. Do you have the time and physical stamina to work two jobs? If youââ¬â¢re up for it, but wary, m ake sure to give yourself an exit date and to consider erring on the side of shorter hours in your second job. Thereââ¬â¢ll be no use for extra cash if youââ¬â¢re too physically and emotionally exhausted to live your life.6.à Your Current Job and Its DemandsDonââ¬â¢t take a second job only to lose your first because you diluted yourself and eased up on your standard of work. Make sure that you donââ¬â¢t dip in time or energy to compromise what you are already doing.7.à Your Basic PrioritiesThe last thing you need to do is prioritize your life. Would you rather have the time to socialize with friends or to spend with your family or on a hobby- and perhaps draw your financial belt a little tighter? Or is the money your biggest, most dire need? Once you figure out whatââ¬â¢s most important, the decision should (almost) make itself. charlesrussell19745http://www.blogger.com/profile/08045445613115422711noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8454395156892785921.post-77601978288477272842020-03-01T03:43:00.001-08:002020-03-01T03:43:03.001-08:00Terms You Might Not Know Are Considered RacistTerms You Might Not Know Are Considered Racist Some racist terms have been included in the American vocabulary for so long that many who use them are often clueless about their origins. Boy In most situations, the word boy is not a problem. Used to describe an African American man, however, the word is troublesome. Thats because historically whites routinely described black men as boys to suggest African Americans werent on equal footing with them. Both during and after slavery, African Americans werent viewed as full-fledged people but as mentally, physically, and spiritually inferior beings to whites. Calling black men boys was one way to express the racist ideologies of yesteryear. Despite its widespread use as a racial putdown, in Ash v. Tyson Foods, the U.S. Court of Appealsà decided that boy cannot be considered a racial slur unless its prefaced with a racial marker such as black. This decision has sparked controversy, considering that whites typically didnt call African American black boys during Jim Crow, but simply boys. The good news, according to Prerna Lal of Change.org, is that the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the holding, ruling that the use of the word boy on its own is not enough evidence of racial animus, but that the word is also not benign. That means the court is willing to consider the context in which boy is used to determine if its being uttered as a racial epithet. Gypped Gyppedà is arguably the most commonly usedà racist termà in existence today. If someone buys a used car that turns out to be lemon, for instance, he may complain, ââ¬Å"I got gypped.â⬠So, why is the term offensive? Because it equates the Gypsy, or Roma peoples, with being thieves, cheats and con artists. When someone says that they ââ¬Å"got gypped,â⬠they are essentially saying that they were conned. Explained Jake Bowers, editor of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller ezineà Travellers Times, to the British newspaper theà Telegraph: ââ¬Å"Gypped is an offensive word, it is derived from Gypsy and itââ¬â¢s being used in the same context as a person might once have said they ââ¬Ëjewedââ¬â¢ somebody if they did an underhand business transaction.â⬠But donââ¬â¢t take Bowersââ¬â¢ word for it. If youââ¬â¢re still debating whether or not to use the verb ââ¬Å"gypped,â⬠consider that Philip Durkin, the principal etymologist at theà Oxford English Dictionaryà told theà Telegraphà that there is a ââ¬Å"scholarly consensusâ⬠that the word originated as a ââ¬Å"racial slur.â⬠No Can Do and Long Time No See These two phrases have probably rolled off the tongues of most Americans at some point in time. However, the sayings are only mocking the attempts of Chinese immigrants and Native Americans, for whom English was a second language. Uppity Most people have no idea that the term uppity has racist connotations when applied to black people in particular. Southerners used the term for black people who didnt know their place and that term was usually followed by another racial slur. Despite its negative history, the word is regularly used by various races. Websters dictionary defines uppity as putting on or marked by airs of superiority and likens the word to arrogant and presumptuous. In 2011, the word got some national coverage when Rush Limbaugh said that Michelle Obama showed uppity-ism. Considering the Shyster Many people have come to believe that shyster is an anti-Semitic, but the origins of the word are linked to a Manhattan newspaper editor in 1843ââ¬â1844. According to an article on Law.com, at the time, there was a crusade against legal and political corruption in the city, and the editor derived the term shyster from the German word scheisse, which means excrement. There are several reasons for the anti-Semitic confusion including the closeness to Shakespeares Shylock, and belief that the term came from the proper name of Scheuster, who some think was a corrupt lawyer. The etymology of the word indicates it was never intended as a racial slur, and that it was applied derogatorily to lawyers in general, and not to any one ethnic group. charlesrussell19745http://www.blogger.com/profile/08045445613115422711noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8454395156892785921.post-90471145077943068892020-02-13T19:08:00.001-08:002020-02-13T19:08:02.538-08:00Comparison & Contrast between activities involved in Strategy AssignmentComparison & Contrast between activities involved in Strategy Formulation versus Strategy implementation - Assignment Example Strategy formulation and implementation are two important aspects, which are interrelated. Strategy formulation and implementation are important facets of strategic management in a corporate for long-range performance. Strategy management comprises of three phases namely, diagnosis, formulation, and implementation (Hill and Jones 2012:20-21). Strategy formulation entails development of long-range plans for effective management of environmental opportunities and threats. This is in the light of corporate strengths and weaknesses. Hill and Jones (2012:20) state that formulation encompasses defining corporate mission, objectives, setting policy guidelines, and developing sound strategies. Formulators of strategy attach some estimate or risk to discernible alternatives. They appraise corporate strength and drawbacks with the resources, which are available. Formulation gives a clear set of recommendations in order for the corporate to accomplish its mission successfully (Hill and Jones 2012:20). Formulation of corporate strategy entails creating sustainable competitive advantages. This happens through giving prudent and practical solution to problems that may affect the corporate. Strategy implementation encompasses putting strategies, which corporate formulates into practice. This entails designing and management of systems in order to achieve best integration of people, processes, structures, and resources in order to attain organizational set goals. This is the step in which corporate converts its strategy into operationally effective action. Formulated strategy gains commitment of resources of organization or corporate. Strategy implementation aims at bringing sound ideas into practice. For implementation of corporate strategy to be effective, strategic managers in organization should support the chosen plan. Second, the strategic supervisors should allocate sufficient resources. Apple is a corporation and a profit making organization, it is owned by different shareholders (Dediu, 2013). On contrary, INTO Giving is a non-profit making organization. It is owned by INTO university partnership with the aim of facilitating education access to the less fortunate children in the world. The fact that the ownership is different, itââ¬â¢s suitable since the owners have different interests in the organization. Apple`s owners are profit driven while INTO Giving`s owners aim at helping the needy. INTO Giving has an organization structure that comprises the following, the board chairman, director and Treasurer, operations director and the fundraising and communications manager. The members of this organization`s manages the organization to meet the charity work which is its main. Although Americans of the late twentieth century have many choices for distraction, one medium has had a particularly significant impact upon the fabric of American culture: film. Through pandering to the ideas and beliefs of the audience, filmmakers parallel those ideas and beliefs in their creations. This correlation was demonstrated in the glut of so-called "slasher" films during the period 1974-1984. Although the films were diverse in form and execution, the basic plot of these movies involved some sort of deranged psychopath gleefully stalking and killing a number of unfortunate teenage victims. Within this sub-genre there can be found a number of basic character styles, or archetypes. These archetypes not only serve to bind certain movies into the slasher category, but also to provide a window into the culture that they cater to. In order to present a specific example of each archetype, I have chosen four films that are exemplary of the overall sub-genre. Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) tells the story of a van full of traveling teenagers and their run-in with a family of backwoods cannibals. John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) has killer Michael Myers strangling baby-sitters on the night of said movie title. Sean Cunningham's Friday the 13th (1980) looses a hockey-masked psychopath upon a host of unsuspecting camp counselors. Finally, Tobe Hooper's The Funhouse (1981) finds four teens trapped in a carnival with a murderous sideshow freak. The most evident archetype within the slasher sub-genre is the Virgin. Usually the Virgin is the protagonist of the film, a female tee... ... of the sub-genre that began with the Wes Craven's Scream (1994). These films are not only helping to carry the archetypes of Halloween and Friday the 13th to a new generation of moviegoers, but also updating them as the culture has updated itself. Despite the changes some form of these archetypes will continue to exist, no matter how much American society alters. As long as a teenager yearns for the adrenaline rush from a masked murderer, slasher films and their archetypes will endure. Works Cited Halloween. Dir. NCO is part of a much larger group of companies namely Expert Global Solutions (EGS). The EGS Group is a business process outsource market leader employing in excess of 43,000 employees in 118 contact centres around the globe currently in 14 countries, with an annual turnover exceeding $2 Billion. EGS is a recognised tier one player in both Customer Relations Management (CRM) and Accounts Receivable Management (ARM) whose clients include 40% of the fortune 500. A major part of the organisations income stream is from debt recovery also known as ARM. The economical downturn had a direct impact on the organisations strategic objectives as this impeded revenue collected from those who fell into arrears. The organisation implemented a change in business strategy a new department was created to solely deal with debt management companies (DMCs) and customers in financial difficulties, as a result an increased revenue stream was created. The increase in business has resulted in a huge expansion both in the capacity of new employees required but also it has seen the organisation needing to relocate to a newly refurbished building along with investment in new technology to ensure they have both the capacity and the capability of fulfilling the clientââ¬â¢s requirements. Change can be described as being inevitable, and those organisations who do not keep up with change may become unstable, with long-term survivability in question. There are events, or situations that occur that affect the way a business operates, either in a positive or negative way such as; Out-sourcing, Internal Reviews, Resignations, Mergers, The Recession or even Employee / Client expectations can all lead to change needing to be implemented within an organisation.Explain how change can impact an organisationââ¬â¢s businessChange can impact an organisation in numerous ways such as;I.Size ââ¬â This is frequently a driving factor for a companyââ¬â¢s structure. Smaller businesses wonââ¬â¢t usually have a vast structure as the owner is usually responsible for all tasks. Larger organisations usually require a more intense framework for their organisations structure.II.Business Strategies ââ¬â These can be a factor in a companyââ¬â¢s organisational development structure. High -growth companies usually have smaller organisational structures so they can react to changes in the business environment quicker than other companies.III.Profitability ââ¬â A positive effect of companies generating operational profits is the ability for companies to expand and grow their operations. Companies often reinvest a certain amount of profits earned from current operations into new business opportunities or expanding current operations to increase business output.Explain the main factors involved in the change process. There are a number of factors involved in an organisations change process such as; 1.Selling the benefits of change ââ¬âIdentifying potential threats and develop scenarios presenting what could take place in the future. Examining opportunities that should be, or could be exploited.2. Communication ââ¬â Talk about the change vision, if people have anxieties then address these openly and honestly. Tie in the vision to all areas of the business from training to performance reviews3. Planning the change ââ¬â Ensure that all research has been completed; examine the organisational structure, job descriptions, and performance and compensation systems to ensure they are in line with the vision.4.Analysing progress ââ¬â After progress has been made analyse what went right and what needs improving. Set goals to build on the progress further to ensure that this is measurable this can be completed by using either a SWOT or PESTLE analysis.A comparison between at least 3 different approaches to managing changeK, Lewin is responsible for introducing force field analysis, which examines the driving and resisting forces in any change situation. The underlying principle is that driving forces must outweigh resisting forces in any situation if change is to happen. The second is about moving to a new state through participation, involvement and internalisation. The third focuses on refreezing and stabilizing the new state of affairs by setting policy, rewarding success and establishing new standards. Driving forces ââ¬â These are forces which push in a direction that causes change to occur, facilitating change as they push the person in the desired direction. Restraining forces- They are forces that counter driving forces, these hnder change as they push the person on the opposite direction. Equilibrium ââ¬â This is a state of being where driving forces equal restraining forces and no change occurs. Equilibrium can be raised or lowered by changes between the driving and restraining forces.Describe 3 behavioural responses seen when change occurs in an organisation.Fear Of The Unknown ââ¬â Change often brings with it substantial uncertainty. Employees facing a technological change, such as the introduction of a new computer system, may resist the change because it introduces uncertainty into what was once a comfortable environment. Fear Of Loss ââ¬â When change is about to occur, some employees may fear losing their jobs, especially where there is a merger or takeover about to happen. Employees may be worried that their operational site will be closed down and the work relocated to another site to save costs or they may fear their roles will become redundant.Poor Communication ââ¬â Changes within an organisation start with key decision makers. It is up to them to pass along the details to team members and ensure all questions are answered before changes go into effect. Unfortunately, as news of a change spreads through the senior management, details are sometimes skewed and managers end up receiving second ââ¬â hand information. Poor communication can therefore cause resistance to change.Explain at least 3 ways that HR can support individuals during change. At NCO the HR function is described as being a support function that assists with the operational running of the organisation. Whenever change occurs, the HR function acts as a role model for change, demonstrating th e behaviours that create a climate for change which includes communicating clearly any plans for change and developing a change strategy that aids with the implementation. It is also supportive to create a shared vision for the future of change within an organisation, employees are better placed to conform if they understand the benefits of any change which is implemented and understand exactly how this will affect them in there day to day interactions whilst being within their workplace. Encouraging discussion is another way the HR function can support employees, when the change process is implemented team members may experience negative feelings towards this such as surges in anxiety or fear of the unknown.Opening the lines of honest and open discussion can assist employees put their negative feelings or emotions aside? Employees who have had their voices heard and have had chance to ask questions surrounding the impending change are better placed to conform to change. Communicati on can also have a positive effect; it has the ability to instil excitement and create the acceptance once the change is fully understood and any questions posed have been answered fully and honestly. charlesrussell19745http://www.blogger.com/profile/08045445613115422711noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8454395156892785921.post-19429978775285185622020-01-08T01:06:00.001-08:002020-01-08T01:06:03.277-08:00Globalization Has A Long History - 1578 Words Introduction Globalization has a long history. According to National Geographic Society (2015), globalization grew when the Europeans began establishing colonies overseas. Many of the early European explorers were eager to spread the Christian religion to the regions they visited. ââ¬Å"The globalization of Christianity spread from Europe to Latin America through Christian missionaries working with the local populationsâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Globalization,â⬠2015). Globalization was accelerated in the 19th century with the Industrial Revolution as mechanical mills and factories became more common. During this time, many companies used raw materials from distant lands and they also sold their goods in other countries (ââ¬Å"Globalization,â⬠2015). Globalization sped upâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Supporters stress the need to adapt to globalization, but opposers stress the need to resist it. Drivers of Globalization Today, people and companies are now doing business with others all over the world. The world market has opened up to the extent that you can do business with virtually anyone, regardless of geographic location. According to National Geographic Society (2015), ââ¬Å"International trade is vital to the economies of most countries around the world.â⬠Many countries have created free trade agreements with other countries to increase trade. Under free trade agreements, countries agree to remove trade barriers (ââ¬Å"Globalization,â⬠2015). For example, ââ¬Å"In 1994, the United States, Mexico, and Canada signed the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which eventually ended all tariffs on trade goods between the three nationsâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Globalization,â⬠2015). This allowed globalization of goods and services, as well as people and ideas, between these three countries. The progression towards globalization has been around for centuries, but it really became noticeable in the early 1900ââ¬â¢s with technological advances. During that period there was no collective worldwide integration and many of the global processes of that time were still one-dimensional (Hopper, 2006). In the latter part of the 20th century, innovation in information technology has been a major driving force in creating the charlesrussell19745http://www.blogger.com/profile/08045445613115422711noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8454395156892785921.post-25856866028827605412019-12-30T21:30:00.001-08:002019-12-30T21:30:03.808-08:00Punctuality and Nursing Professionalism - Free Essay Example Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 597 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2019/04/12 Category Career Essay Level High school Topics: Professionalism Essay Did you like this example? It is not a secret that working as a nurse in the emergency department is a physically and mentally taxing occupation which holds many responsibilities. Nurses that work twelve hour shifts and longer are shown to report increased concern over failing patient safety, due to fatigue (Griffiths et al., 2014). If a nurse is unable to obtain punctual arrival to the work environment, it may prolong the shift of another nurse already on the unit. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Punctuality and Nursing Professionalism" essay for you Create order In this essay, I would like to discuss how professional nursing responsibilities, patient safety, and punctuality of oncoming staff nurses could interact to become a risk factor for low quality care. It is important to understand the responsibilities and consequences of nursing procedures to grasp the nurses role in patient safety. There are many areas where nurses may choose to work, and the more demanding of these areas is critical care units. These departments require the nurse to work at a much faster pace, with patients lives at risk if they are unable to do so. The high demand placed on nurses in these units places them at an especially high risk for fatigue. If done improperly, nursing responsibilities like medication administration, peripheral line insertion, and rapid assessments can have grave consequences for the patient. For example, if a patient received the wrong dose of a medication, it could result in chronic impairment or death. At the very least, perpetual tardiness may affect professional reputation with the employer. Patient safety is a responsibility largely held by the primary nurse of a patient. Ninety-six percent of nurses and ninety percent of physicians, pharmacist and administrators report that nurses hold the responsibility of preventing patient harm in the hospital setting (Ramanujam, Abrahamson, Anderson, 2008). This number is quite staggering considering the fact that nurses receive a flow of information from several multidisciplinary team members. For example, a nurse on a rapid response team must think quickly and critically to ensure physician orders are implemented correctly, that a CNA is performing proper compressions and that other staff nurses are giving the right amount of medication. In situation situations like this, fatigue may cause a human error that decides whether a patient will survive or not. A possible correlation for fatigue and patient safety is the punctuality of oncoming nurses. If an oncoming nurse is prolonged with arrival to work, a nurse on the existing shift may be asked to work past the standard twelve-hour shift. With time worked increasing past twelve hours, nurses become more concerned about the failure of safety precautions, and more tasks are left incomplete, compared to a nurse who has worked a fewer number of hours (Griffith et al., 2014). It is vital to patient safety that administrators and nurses ensure punctual arrival times. Nursing is a career path that places high demand on professional, physical, mental, and emotional capabilities. The long hours and heavy workload contribute to fatigue, which could place a nurse at risk for human error and negatively impact patient care. What is crucial to tying this essay together is the concept of punctuality. The inability of a nurse to arrive on time places patients at an unnecessary risk for poor quality care. As a professional, the nurse should make every effort to not just arrive on time, but to be early. References: Griffiths, P., DallOra, C., Simon, M., Ball, J., Lindqvist, R., Rafferty, A., . . . I mentioned these in great detail in my previous assignment; I will now discuss the different psychological approaches to health practice. The psychological approaches are; Behaviourist, Psychodynamic, Humanistic. The behaviourist theory is all about teaching behaviour whether it is appropriate of not when you can see the changes in behaviour is when you know it has worked. The behavioural learning technique is the result of conditioning. Conditioning suggests that a reward following a desirable response acts as reinforcement and increases the likelihood that the desirable response will be repeated. Reinforcement is the most important part of the behaviourist approach. A nurse in a healthcare setting provides reinforcement at each step. For example, when a little girl is having to get a blood test done and is afraid and rejecting to do so peacefully, the nurse will look for some positive behaviour and then immediately reinfo rces by saying, you are such a big girl or you did an excellent job with that! The psychodynamic theory says that behaviour is driven by subconscious forces in which we have no control over. These unconscious forces can be accessible through a slip of the tongue (Freudian slip) or in dreams/nightmares and signify the unconscious truth. In a healthcare location, these subconscious forces are studied to try and attempt to make a diagnosis. Knowledge and skills related to cultural diversity can strengthen and broaden health care delivery systems. ââ¬Å"In 1986 the American Nursing Association (ANA) issued its first intention to strengthen cultural diversity programs in nursingâ⬠(Lowe Archibald, 2009, p. We will write a custom essay sample on Cultural Diversity and Patient Care or any similar topic only for you Order Now 11). Despite good intentions made by nursing, progress in the area of cultural diversity has been slow and sporadic. The change in the ethnic composition of the U.S. has challenged nurses to incorporate the needs of their patient into their daily nursing practice. Society expects todays nurse to be culturally competent. Earlier a focus was on transcultural nursing was to bring an understanding of the contrasts between the nurseââ¬â¢s own culture and of the patient. An early strategy to educate nurses about culture was to incorporate cultural education into the nursing curriculum and to have cultural questions on nursing boards and certification testing. ââ¬Å"The necessity in preparing and assisting nurse researchers and clinicians to be able to meet the health needs of culturally diverse population takes on a sense of urgencyâ⬠(Lowe Archibald, 2009, p. 15). Concepts of illness, health, and wellness are part of the total cultural belief system. Nurses need to understand; how cultural groups understand life process, how they define health and illness, what they do to maintain wellness, what they believe is the cause of illness, how healers cure and care for their members, and how the cultural background of the nurse influences the care that they provide. We read in Ephesians 4:32, ââ¬Å"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christââ¬â¢s sake hath forgiven youâ⬠(Holy Bible, King James Version). A graphical user interface uses many metaphors which denote the use of objects. It may use desktops or views or even the physical layout considered in a building. The main elements of a graphical user interface are considered to be pulling down menus, windows, buttons, and images as icons, scroll bars, wizards and many other things which help in giving shape to the structure. According to the integration pipeline of the SIA interface, there are two paths to the service points. One is the normal path without the presence of any routing processes and the other is the one with a routing process. The graphical user interface interaction process is adopted as it aims to create an interactive design considering the developers of the system and the users of the system[2]. Another major objective of implementing the GUI process is to provide simple level of interaction with the users. The main functionalities included in the interaction process of the GUI are: Developing of a system by adopting a user centered approach Evaluating the prototypes after making a successful design format The usability criteria of the aspects are always to be considered The design of the specific parameters are to be focused on utilizing the ease level so that a better understanding of the application processes will be utilized. The major objectives of this process are the development and design of a web application for a client at Sigma. This will be considered from the perspective of a designer[3]. The client is an employee of the company concerned. The user of this web application is the potential customers that the company deals with. Lastly, the designer is the author who will be responsible for the design of the web application. The needs and requirements of the client associated will be analyzed and a structured solution of the process will be given so that the perspective is enhanced. For the design process, the interactive design theory is to be followed. This design prospective will show some graphic pictures of the website in this report. The website will include various texts and images that are mainly to be used to grab the attention of the traffic that it will engage upon. GUI Implementation To make an implementation of the GUI designs, a prototype will be developed. The first method involves development of a low level implementation which will be termed as the Low-fi. This will be followed by the process of developing a high level implementation prototype[4]. This high level structure will then be evaluated until it meets all the criteria set by the client. In addition, it will also be used to conform to the quality standards. Lastly, the Angular JS will be utilized for making a connection between the front end and the back end aspects of the website. Vision plan The major objectives of this project involve a vision. This vision includes the designing of a low-fi prototype which is considered to be simple in processing[5]. This will be used o get a general idea of the requirements. This will also be used to develop the details of the design which are depicted in section 4.3, 4.4 and 4.6 of this report. This process will follow the implementation of a high level development known as the hi-fi model. This model will be made utilizing the HTML language and this model will be more detailed with extended features. This part is depicted in the section 4.5 of this report. The third step will involve the use of the angular JS which will basically be used to get the JSON data from the backend process of the website. The website will be mainly used to capture the attention of the customers[6]. In addition, as the website is involved with both the front end process and the backend process, it will be used to capture the data of the customers. The activities of the simulation pipeline will involve testing the valves between the entry point and the service point. Each of the valve processes will be tested before entry is guaranteed to the service point. In case of the configuration tool, the angular.Js JavaScript framework will be used for making the required framework. In a similar manner, the bootstrap.css will be used for web request part of the interface. The bootstrap framework will enable various other features like iconic images or other processes while the angular structure will enable the framework of the structure. The front end process will be utilized for capturing the traffic and making them signup in the process. The backend will present the accounts page of the user. This will provide a sense of security to the website. Lastly, the HTML code of the page will be linked to the JSON data which will be in turn linked to the PDF box, such that any required file can be obtained in the PDF format as well. Designing of the application The major elements of the bootstarp.css are mainly used for creating a layout of the interactive models in the website. This includes using the drop-down features of the website along with changing the layout to meet the needs of the client[7]. These features are mainly followed to adopt the interactive features of the application. For addressing such requirements, the overall accountability of the elements in this website must be carefully monitored. This process will help in accounting for any changes required in the development process which in turn will give a general idea of the modifications needed. The GUI elements are to include all the aspects which successfully capture the parameters accountable for the design of the website. The metrics for capturing the design specifications are to be successfully integrated in the website that allows in easy documentation of the data involved[8]. Along with this data, the entire information pertaining to the process must be successfully documented. According to the design phase of the website, there are five different components that are to be followed. The first component is the understanding the contents for use. This is the first phase of the design process where the requirements are analyzed and then the physical manifestation of the process is started. The next step is the identification of the user requirements. In this phase, the various stakeholders related to the project will be analyzed and the requirements related to it have to be analyzed[9]. As a result, the effectiveness of the system will be increased. The third phase involves the analysis of the design solutions. The design solutions will be utilized in denoting the overall content of the website. This includes denoting a front end design and a back end design. The additional features like the informative tab or the header design must also be analyzed and executed. The fourth phase involves utilizing the designs made and evaluating them to get a solution. If a f ully functional website is established, then the evaluation is considered to be successful[10]. The last phase involves analysis of the project by the clients who will verify the quality of the product. If the system is able to meet the demands of the client, then it is considered as success for the developer of the system. If the system is not able to meet the standards of the client, the whole process is started until an acceptable system is developed. Using these specifics, the major sections of the design phase must be made in a clear way such that it can be explained to the client as well as the logic behind such implementations can be specified. This report serves as an important platform which provides a reference tool for maintaining the application. The various methods of designs have been discussed in this report which presents an overview of the requirements needed. It is a psychological, evolutionary, and ethological theory refering relationships between worlds pointed out that a immature kid demands to develop a relationship with at least one primary health professional for societal and emotional development to happen usually. Harmonizing to his survey of fond regard theory, infant behavior associated with fond regard is chiefly the seeking of propinquity to an attachment figure, furthermore, unafraid base and safe oasis are the characteristics and map of attachment relationships. Babies go attached to grownups who are sensitive and antiphonal in societal interactions with them. The mother-child fond regard bond shapes babies encephalons, deeply act uponing their self-pride, their outlooks of others, and their ability to pull and keep successful relationships. Nowadays surveies besides support that during the early development, the infant-mother interaction and the early societal experiences may bring forth durable alterations in the encephalon of the baby with profound behavioural and emotional effects throughout the whole life. The infant behaviours that have been implicated as ensuing from this theoretically compromised female parent baby relationship have included rebuff, transeunt effects on sociableness and affectional sharing to consequences proposing important additions in crossness, cognitive holds, behavioural jobs, and troubles with fond regard among others. Overall, following fond regard theory, the early connexion developed between a primary kid attention supplier and an baby is indispensable for development. Missing of experience make it hard for them to manage the issue about this new member and household passage, particularly for the first-time parentage. The success or failure of the fond regard bond has a life-long consequence in a individual s life. Maternal employment and infant fond regard Whether and how about the female parent s working position affect the baby was a subject of great involvement in the 1980s. In the context of female parents increased engagement in paid work, attending has besides turned to the impact of maternal employment and the usage of nonmaternal kid attention as extra factors likely to impact maternal caregiving and the underdeveloped fond regard relationship ( Belsky A ; Eggerbeen, 1991 ; NICHD, 1997a ) . Many scientists, politicians, and parents were worried about the kids, particularly infant, would endure if others but non the moter cared for them most of the clip, others argued that such concerns were based on oppressive male chauvinist biass non informations. So debates started, positive or negative influence on the fond regard of female parent and baby, whether working female parents is taking the duty of the baby or non. Why do female parents travel to work Why female parents go to work ; in Hong Kong society, adult females go to work for more personal and societal grounds than for fiscal grounds. In traditional society, female parents are executing stereotypic functions as be responsible for the family, such as making housekeeping, fixing dinner, lovingness of the kids and hubby. Now in modern society, adult females are no longer restricted by the traditional female parent and married woman function. For the economical ground, they want to do more benefits to the household and addition more independency in economic place. For the instruction criterion, adult females who achieved high educational making, want to use their cognition to the work and prosecute a successful calling, and they are needed by the society. For the altering societal norms, adult females are accomplishing more equalities in work, morevoer, they are non acted as bad mas when they go to work and pay less attending on the kids. The whole society tend to accept work ing female parents. Though several grounds and conditions mentioned above seem to let female parents to fall in the work force, still many of them face with a quandary sing their calling and household. Still so many female parent feel fighting in the state of affairs of whether to work or non. Negative facet of working female parents Harmonizing to the above fond regard theories, it is easy to acknowledget the injury that would make to the infant deficiency of fond regard. It is to state that negative influences on the development of secure fond regard, or even potentially detrimental. Fail to supply the kid with sufficient construction, acknowledgment, apprehension, safety, and common agreement may take to go physically and emotionally distant in relationships in subsequently relationship, remain insecure, go disorganised, aggressive and angry, and develop easy. . A working female parent is tend to make an insecure and inconsistent fond regard. Stifter, Coulehan, and Fish, found no important connexions between work position and attachment security, but did caught the public attending of the consideration and inclusion of other variables such as maternal separation anxiousness and maternal sensitiveness. Specially the research did happen that babies of female parents who were employed but reported high work-related separation anxiousness were more likely to develop anxious-avoidant fond regards. And so, a determination suggested that employed female parent were less invested in parentage and had high degree of anxiousness, implied high anxiousness would acquire in the manner of taking good attention of the baby. A babe is supposed to turn up to be loving, good adjusted person. A full-time employed female parent would hold missed out on being there and watching the babe from up near. These are of import formative period, as a female parent s inherent aptitude, want to be around to beef up the attachment bond between female parent and baby. The effects of maternal employment of unafraid mother-infant fond regard relationship to be negative of bulk harmonizing to those researches. These groundss support the hypothesis that working female parents increase the hazard of some unwanted results, espacilly in the babe s first twelvemonth. Positive facet of working female parents Do maternal employment have an inauspicious consequence on the kids? The reply may be no. In fact, female parents with callings have a positive impact on kids, as they serve as good function theoretical accounts. A survey in Australia found no relation between maternal employment and infant fond regard. In the early survey, Bowlby insisted that separation from the female parent should be kept to a lower limit. However, in the farther survey, he developed his statement as a subordinate attachment figure can run into an baby s demands adequately in the primary figure s absence . In another words, female parent was non the lone fond regard bond to the babe and this determination gave the female parent an chance to take a breath during the overpowering responsibilities. She did non necessitate to take the lone duty to the feedback towards the baby. Subsequently, some bookmans emphasized quality but non measure of the fond regard. Too much and excessively sensative responds to the babe may trip a spoiling parental manner. Prior to an baby s self-regulation of external stimulations, parents are responsible. Parents have to larn the difference between excessively much and excessively small responds for pull offing the baby heedlessness and inordinate stimulation. Supplying the appropriate sum of feedback for the babe is carry oning a healthy fond regard bond. I was impressed by a professors s stating that many parents experience really selfish and cruel in go forthing their weeping immature kid for the absence clip. However, it is non merely a good chance for her parents, it is besides an of import lesson in trust for her that you will ever be clear about when you areA go forthing, you will ever supply a lovingness defender while you are gone, and, best of all, you ever return to love and protect her. Parents should be comforted that, decently go forthing but non ever lodge to the babe is besides buliding a trusting relationship. For the farther concern of the babe, Such working female parents tend to underscore instruction, and besides manage to pass quality clip with their kids. Talking about the double income, the criterion of life is higher, kids get entree to better quality instruction and extra-curricular activities. Acadamic statistic demonstrated this fact: secure parental employment lowers the incidence of poorness and the associated hazards to kids. The addition in the per centum of kids populating with a on the job parent is welcome intelligence, said Duane Alexander, M.D. , Director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development of the National Institutes of Health. Secure parental employment helps to cut down the psychological toll on households, brought on by parental unemployment and underemployment.Secure parental employment may besides heighten kids s psychological wellbeing and better household operation by cut downing emphasis and other negative effects that unemployment a nd underemployment can hold on parents. Decision As we can see, there are pros and cons about maternal employmet. So we still have to cover with this quandary and do our ain determination. I think there are no right or incorrect replies in this instance. Whether you want to acquire back to work from the twenty-four hours you stop nursing your kid, or whether you want to be a housewife your full life is wholly up to you. Some adult females find joy in the workplace, while others find it at place. In some conditions, adult females can manage both kids and work good though it is a difficult undertaking. Possibly holding one does non necessitate giving the other. charlesrussell19745http://www.blogger.com/profile/08045445613115422711noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8454395156892785921.post-87576574601556505412019-11-25T09:22:00.001-08:002019-11-25T09:22:02.530-08:00Brave New World Parallels to Reality EssaysBrave New World Parallels to Reality Essays Brave New World Parallels to Reality Essay Brave New World Parallels to Reality Essay Essay Topic: Brave New World Assignment Consider an aspect of our society that parallels with a theme of the text (eg. Formal education, marriage, parenting, uses of technology). Take the aspect and redesign it as apart of your own ââ¬Ëbrave new worldââ¬â¢. Explain how you would change this part of society to make it the way you believe it should be. Response In Huxleyââ¬â¢s Brave New Worldââ¬â¢ you are born into a class/caste (Alpha, Bata, Gamma, Delta or Epsilon) without a say in the matter. The class you are put in decides how the rest of your life is going to be led and how you are conditioned to live it. Weather you are an Alpha or an Epsilon, before you are even born you are placed into a class in society that dictates the rest of your life. In reality we have a similar concept. We are born into classes without a say, whether it is wealthy, middle classed or poor. This too also has some say in how you are going to lead your life. If youââ¬â¢re rich youââ¬â¢re going to have many more opportunities to set your life up as to you being poor. The classes of society today are also conditioned in some way. If you are poor you donââ¬â¢t have the same opportunities as other members of society so when an opportunity of some sort does come along that normally wouldnââ¬â¢t, you appreciate it and work hard. As to someone who is born rich, theyââ¬â¢ve been conditioned to expect the best of everything and not work hard for the things in their life and can often be seen as ââ¬Ëspoiledââ¬â¢. In another Brave New World it would be ideal if everyone was born equal but this simply cannot be the case, as problems would arise. Instead, it would be ideal if every working person started on an equal minimum wage, no matter the career/occupation field. The government with the rising price markets would increase this minimum wage, which is what it fails to do so now. This minimum wage would be more then enough to keep you on your feet and more then capable of looking after yourself and your family in a charlesrussell19745http://www.blogger.com/profile/08045445613115422711noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8454395156892785921.post-59658447160431664292019-11-21T16:46:00.001-08:002019-11-21T16:46:03.690-08:00Facebook Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1Facebook - Research Paper Example ing Facebook scored a grade point lower with their weekly period of study ranging between 1 and 5 hours as compared to 11 to 15 hours by the non-users of Facebook (23). This paper looks at the arguments by these researchers, analysing the implications of networking sites on learning and compares them to counterarguments by various researchers. Indeed, Facebook does not make us dumb but rather imparts important learning skills that prevent dumbness among its users. The evaluation of the effects of social media on learning which determine dumbness in an individual has been cited by Ahn (1436) as a complex undertaking. According to this researcher, the media effects paradigm provides appropriate explanation to the dynamics involved in influencing learning. This postulates that any media or technological form would have causal relationship on some outcome, though it remains elusive to conclude on a direct causal relationship existing between technology and social outcome like learning. But the media effect paradigm has helped researchers conclude that a media tool in itself would not influence learning but rather, the learning behaviours associated with the software used or the educational program (Ractham, Kaewkitipong and Firpo 173). According to Ahn (1437), it is the features of a technology and not a technology in itself that that constrains or propagates the usage of the tool. Furthermore, behavioural practices and cultural norms influence oneââ¬â¢s usage of technology. This offers insights in studies seeking to determine the effects of social media. This social informatics perspective implies that the social platform media would not cause outcomes like learning; the cultural and communication behaviours exhibited by its users would. Therefore, it would be important to consider the user populations involved in these social communities, the features of the social media sites and behaviours that could be likely associated with the social outcomes (Rouis, Limayem and charlesrussell19745http://www.blogger.com/profile/08045445613115422711noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8454395156892785921.post-16722582143927494272019-11-20T15:37:00.001-08:002019-11-20T15:37:02.062-08:00McDonald's Corporation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 wordsMcDonald's Corporation - Essay Example No wonder, McDonaldââ¬â¢s Corporation every year rakes in revenues worth billions of dollars. At the foundation of this impressive international expansion and mind boggling profitability lays the unique and customized marketing strategy of McDonaldââ¬â¢s Corporation. Over the years, McDonaldââ¬â¢s Corporation has evolved a highly versatile and resourceful marketing strategy to promote its products. McDonaldââ¬â¢s is a corporate concern that believes in customizing its marketing efforts and brand strategy to suit the local markets. Therefore, it resorts to an innovative mix of apt marketing planning and execution, effective brand management and evolution and strategic creativity (McDonaldââ¬â¢s Corporation 2009). Hence, the overall marketing strategy of McDonaldââ¬â¢s has always been an assorted blend of catchy advertising and promotional, media publicity, in-store marketing, public relations initiatives, etc (McDonaldââ¬â¢s Corporation 2009). The primary objective behind the marketing strategy of McDonaldââ¬â¢s is to forge a meaningful and long lasting relationship with its customers. In its expansion history, McDonald faced several unique issues that were often specific to the local arenas in which its restaurants were located. The forte of the company has been its ability to realign its marketing strategies to accommodate the local concerns and issues. For example, in 2003, McDonald had to face a unique situation in Europe and particularly the UK, when its sales figures started dwindling owing to the rising customer concerns over obesity and health problems associated with fast food consumption (Marketing Week 2005). The situation desperately required an innovative and fresh approach towards marketing. The mobile phones of today are ultra-thin and ultra-light. Currently Motorolas best mobile is a little more than half an inch thick when you fold it shut and it weighs just over three ounces. It also includes a digital camera. Mobile phone manufacturers continue to compete to provide the most features in the most fashionable phone. The technology that Martin Cooper unveiled more than three decades ago has fundamentally changed lives around the world from grocery shoppers in Europe to farmers in Africa. There are now over two billion mobile phones on the planet. There are more mobile phones in China than in any other single country in the world. China is the biggest mobile phone market in the world. There are more mobile phones in china than there are people in the United States. Mobile phones had revolutionary impact on the way we communicate, mobile phones let people do what they have to do, when and where they want. This freedom relies on huge investments in high technology and the evolution of smaller and faster machines. Smartphones are sophisticated devices used for communication while offering many other different functions at the same time. These functions may include video and audio recording, navigation assistance, music and video player and web browsing through wireless networks and apps ranging from games to highly specialized dictionaries. Smartphones come in different designs candy-bar models, clamshell models, slide models and wearable watch models. Common uses of smartphones besides phone calls and messaging may include video-conferencing, web browsing, listening to music, viewing videos, playing games, tool for different educational purposes, navigation assistant. Technically, an operating system platform open to developers is really the only minimum requirement to classify a Smartphone. Smartphones are generally also expected to be smart. For example if a phone that asks you for the sever address, port, etcà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦ to set up for email access, its not a Smartphone even if the advertising brochure says so. A Smartphone is cleverer than that because it will figure out the server from your email id by itself. While the majority of people may think that smartphones are for geeks it is actually the opposite because they are generally much more refined and intuitive than the non-smart phones. Smartphones can be used by the not so technically inclined as well, to do powerful things with their phones. A smartphone can be easily recognized by its excellent email, calendar, organizer integration and powerful apps presented in a simple and intuitive way. Symbian, Android, Windows Mobile, is the current operating systems that drive a smartphone. It is the same thing as Windows and Mac OS on our PC. These operating systems help us to interact with both the hardware and the applications on the phone. Unlike Java applications that can be installed on any ordinary mobile phone, applications that have been developed on these operating system platforms are normally much better in terms of their functionality. Through the appropriate OS such applications can interact more easily with the phones hardware. Application categories range from Productivity, Entertainment, Communication, Finance, Health, Lifestyle, Multimedia, News, Social to Travel and everything in between. These app stores are accessible from the phone itself for instant downloads of both free and paid applications. There is no end to how much functionality you can add to your phone. Invention Martin Cooper from Motorola created the first portable cellular device. It was shaped like a brick and it weighed nearly two pounds. Each technology allows us to do a thousand times more. The mobile phone is helping people, goods and services to move and it is driving technology forward. Back in 1915 when the thermionic tube was invented, it powered the whole world war two and after that came the transistor. The transistor allowed us to do a thousand times more with less power and after that came the integrated circuit which was again thousand times smaller, requiring less and less power while providing more computing power. We are wearing more digital storage than was available on this planet, in the year we were born by a long way. This revolution is not going to stop any time soon. We use mobile phones to talk through it, listen, we can send very minimal message. We dont need great technical knowledge in order to use it; we dont even need literacy to use it. It is almost universally accessible and this in itself is a very new thing for a piece of technology. The technology starts off being very expensive. The first mobile phone was the size of a brick and cost a couple thousand pounds and phone calls were incredibly expensive. Now they come off priced at less than twenty bucks and the rate of phone calls have become lower. A mobile phone nowadays is used as a text messenger, word processor, calendar, a clock, a diary, a dictionary, a compass, a scanner, a computer, an internet access, an email, a gaming console, a video camera, a television, a radio, a music sharing center, etcà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦ The very first smartphone to have been created was named Simon. It was designed and created by IBM (International Business Machines) in the 1992s. It was in Las Vegas, Nevada, during the COMDEX (Computer Dealers Exhibition) show that this idea of smartphone was first presented to the world. The Simon smartphone included features like world clock where it could show the time in all the countries in the, a note pad used to take notes, email, calculator, a calendar where it was possible to markup events in certain days and to set an alarm for that event, receive and send faxes and it was also possible to install and play different games. One unique feature that Simon smartphone had was its keyboard. It was the first phone to be using a touch screen keyboard. The On-screen keyboard was a built-in keyboard showed on the screen. For using the phones keyboard, people had to touch the screen with their fingers just like as if it were traditional keyboard with physical buttons. With time the technology evolved and the touch screen was no longer used just for the dialing, it was used for writing too. Smartphones with both touch screen keypad and also the standard keypad were invented because some people were unsatisfied due to the fact that it was hard to write text messages from a completely touch screen phone because of its sensitivity. Such phones were named QWERTY phones. The QWERTY Smartphones helped people to write more easily, and because it looks like a minicomputer, they can easily use it to surf the web, use instant messengers and many other features. The smartphones are great for business persons or anyone who wants features that a computer has, but it has the disadvantage of having a much higher price compared to normal phones. The price is expected to drop as time passes by and technology advances. Ringtones Ringtones were first invented via these devices itself. When mobile phone manufacturers first developed their devices, they had the opportunity to put music within them. Thats how we got early tones coming from the manufacturer to start with which were a series of sound to let the owners know that their phone was ringing. Firstly there was the monophonic tune and then came the polyphonic tune. Nowadays we are in a position where we call it the true tone or real sound and that is in fact an actual clip of a real piece of music. Impact on poor countries AFRICA The mobile phone has brought more telephony to the whole continent of Africa in the last 5 years than the landline telephone was able to bring since its inversion in the last hundred years. Mobile phones are highly appreciated in Africa, they are very important because it enables the people there, to reach everyone and everyone. It is saving money, life, transportation. The mobile phone in Africa is now as important as the bicycle once was. Everybody, from a shoe polisher to a guy in the market to the highest executive, depend on mobile phones rather than the landlines. The mobile phone can be considered to be a technology that gives people the power to make things better on their own. Africa is now part of the world where the subscriber count is growing the fastest. Mobile phones give us economic benefits. They save us the trouble of making wasted journeys, make it easier to find work; they allow you to call several markets if you are a farmer or a fisherman to find out the best pri ce for your product. They also compensate for bad infrastructure i.e. places where we dont have good roads, postal services or fixed network. Mobile phones boost economic activities in a big way. The price of handsets has fallen greatly in the last eighteen months. We can now get mobile phones in less than thirty dollars. All of those things put in the hands of the poor, they can then benefit from these great things mobile phones can do. The mobile phone is a force for good benefiting billions of people and changing the way we all behave. There is however a darker side to the mobile phone revolution. We dont know yet all the risks in health, in ecology, in security but it is known that mobile phones have been used to trigger bombs in Madrid, in London, in Israel, in Iraq and India. The mobile phone has become crucial to state security. Everyones calls are now routinely scanned and monitored. While it can argued that the innocent have nothing to fear, this is not entirely true. Nowadays it is possible to track back a person if a call is being made. For example, lets say that there is an executive chief officer of a big company and he has commercial rivals who have got a new product, new service, new piece of software that is going to seriously do damage to the companys business. Then, arises the issue of whether it is possible for the company to listen to its commercial rivals mobile phone calls. There is no legal way the company can do that but it is possible to do it, illegally. INDIA In India we now have more mobile phones than landlines. Even though landlines are cheaper and available, people still prefer mobile phones to landlines. Now in India, mobile phones are becoming accessible to the very poor. The sort of people who live in the eighty-six thousand villages all over the country that have no connectivity at all. Mobile phones can ease the lives of the poor. Lets take the case of a farming woman from a town in India. The woman is carrying a heavy load of vegetables which she actually harvested in her backyard. She does not know when the bus will come and if the bus comes and she gets into the bus with her heavy load of vegetables, she is not quite sure that the market at the next stop is still open. When she goes in the market if it is open, she is not sure if that particular vegetable that day on that market is well priced enough to meet her ends. This is where communication plays a crucial role. This woman could also go to the rural communication center also known as tele-centers. There she can find a man and a woman sitting there waiting to provide services. She goes into this place asks to know when the bus arrives and thanks to the telephone facility, this service provider person might call the nearest person to ask when the bus is coming and what is the rate of the particular vegetable in the market and is the market open or not? We cannot go to every village raining tele-centers. Imposing a tele-center on a village does not always work. It only works if the demand comes from the villagers themselves and it meets their needs. A good way out would be not to have any tele-center but lots of cheap handsets distributed out to many more people. A curse or a blessing? A recent survey done by of one million users in 34 countries showed that 62% believed that their work productivity was much better due to new technology. à 75% considers the opportunity provided by devices such as smartphones and laptops to remain in constant contact with work as a positive development. Converting down time to work time, and being able to stay in touch with whats happening at work at all times.à This kind of commitment used to be associated with Type A executives, but nowadays anyone with a smartphone can do so too. Many people like to find new ways to be effective, and like to feel as if they are getting better at managing time. However, what is actually happening with manyà professionals is not amusing at all. Companiesà have taken the opportunity given to them by technology to convince employees to spend more down time doing work. à Nowadays, most people with a smartphone have gotten into the habit of continuously trying to convert down time into useful, work time. Ways in which professionals may be converting their down time to get something done: An employee sending a text message to his co-workers while travelling at 120 Km/h in a train and spilling hot coffee into his lap. A teacher in a PTA meeting thats going very slow, logs in her e-mail and replies, missing two tasks given to her among the various others. An accountant at the swimming pool to watch his child swim the 25m freestyle event closes a deal during the mens 25m freestyle via cellphone and lies to his son about seeing him break the record for that event. A supervisor attending 3 days of fitness training is unable to do her training without touching her smartphone every 15 minutes and later after getting them written results of her training complains that the training program was not effective enough. A teacher talking to the school manager to obtain a place in the school gets a message from her tuition student asking for help on a revision exercise, just before the exams start. She quietly sends her a reply while the manager is still talking. The manager notices the sudden lapse in attention and interprets it as a lack of interest in the proposals he is offering. A lawyer one more time takes his smartphone to the toilet where he can multi-task and by misfortune his boss husband who borrowed his smartphone, like five minutes before, happened to be there and notices him. More importantly the phone falls in the urinal and the owner quickly picks it up and tries his best to continue his conversation with his customer These habits were developed by professionals who were trying to boost their productivity by converting down time into something of value. Human beings are known to easily develop habits that are hard to stop and these habits can also be annoying to others. There are where cases employees are provided with a smartphone for free by their company executives and managers. It is even seen as a form of reward and indicator of status in some companies. Its much better to make the small, enlightened changes now, than to wait until the cost is higher and the effort required seems to be impossible to garner. All it takes to get started is one or two employees who are willing to redefine what productivity means for themselves and their companies, in favor of long-term results that are sustainable. Health Alzheimers and Parkinsons are just some of the diseases being attributed to prolonged cell phone use. But above these, the possibility of getting brain cancer is what most health-conscious individuals worry about their fascination with these gadgets. Mobile phone electromagnetic radiation is said to destroy the protein barrier of the brain and make it susceptible to viruses and toxins. Aside from that, it is also said to destroy red blood cells and cause hemoglobin leaking, which consequently harms the heart and kidney. These harms eventually manifest as an elevated blood pressure and a decrease in the bodys immunity. In addition, cell phone radiation is also suspected of causing another form of physical threat, in the form of car accidents. According to a study conducted by the Harvard University, cell phones are predisposing factors to 200 vehicular deaths and millions of deaths per year. Furthermore, it is also insinuated that electromagnetic waves prove detrimental to the environments health and may cause freak fires in gas stations, as it can unwillingly ignite gas fumes. But with all things considered, cell phones are not solely to be blamed for these ill consequences. As such, the human factor cannot be excluded in the equation. Our excesses and lack of control usually bring about negative effects to our cell phone use. So, it might be best that we learn, while still physically fit, about what we can do to prevent bad things from happening. By using the internet, we can gather enough intelligence to help us live a better, healthier mobile phone using life. For example using a wired ear piece to talk through to the phone would prevent exposure of radiations to the brain. Fashion Today more than two hundred million Americans have a mobile phone. For many of us mobile phones are essential and the younger we are the truer that is. On the streets of London, new school ringtones and latest mobile phones are objects of desire. Mobile phones have become agents of change and modifiers of behavior. They alter our notion of time and space. They blur the boundaries between private and public. Mobile phones expand the sense of self, making us seem grander and more important. People like carrying their mobile phones around. They do not carry it in their pocket or hand bags but they are holding it in their hands and waving it around. We can see this in restaurants for example when people go to restaurants, even if their mobile phone is in their pocket, they take it out and place it on the table so that everyone can see it. Another example would be when there is a group of girls standing around and then there is a men flashing his mobile phone and talking continuously on the phone. The young girls think that he must be a busy man. The young girls were looking at him and suddenly his phone rang. People want to show off their phone so much that they are even pretend to be talk. Even if we do not need our mobile phone, we bring it out with us just to show off. These days the mobile phone each person uses is considered to be an indicator of his/her status in society. It seems that to be part of the society especially among youths today, one has to be charged up, switched on and always connected. Nonetheless we have to be aware that non-stop networking can become addictive and intrusive. Most teenagers nowadays always have a mobile phone in there hand. It is like they are someone important and anybody can phone the him/her any moment. Some are in the middle of a text message while talking to someone else; giving an impression they have a really interesting life and so many friends. It is not uncommon in these modern days to meet young people who are talking to each other and texting at the same time. People even sleep with their mobile phones switched on. Improvements Jim McGregor would like future smartphones to zap the person on the other end when they say something stupid. The chief technology strategist for In-Stat Research is onto something. For now, the closest we probably have to that is the mute button. But a chief technologist strategists job incorporates vision, and thats one vision that many might share. We are really just at the beginning of making these devices interface with the real world through advanced sensors and intelligent applications, says McGregor. Future devices will be able to sense temperature, speed, direction, location, action and be able to communicate with you with information you may want, rather than just the information you request. (By McGregor) Smartphones are starting to overtake the PC in terms of the primacy of getting information and entertainment from the Internet, says Mike Woodward, vice president of the mobile phone portfolio for ATT. Theres a whole generation of people, who, if they wanted to go find out something, they went and sat down at the computer and got it. Theres a generation coming up behind that, if they need to grab some quick information, a movie ticket, a dinner reservation they immediately reach for their smartphone, whether theyre out on the go or not. Conclusion Far into the future, everything would be miniaturized so the smartphone would have a CPU larger than modern day laptops and amazing integrated graphics. This smartphone would be faster than the fastest laptops we see today. The phone would have a few projectors on it as well as a stand in the back. We could put it on its stand and then hit a button to turn it into computer mode. It would project a screen in front of it as well as a keyboard down in front of you and it would basically turn into a laptop. Basically one day would arrive where we would be carrying around only one device. That is our smartphone that we could easily turn into a real full size computer. Our future smartphone should be able to wirelessly transmit to our TV screen in HD resolution, and be more powerful than our current desktop computer. It will have an infrared keyboard projector that is sensitive to finger motion. It will have such fast bandwidth that local storage will be a moot questionit will be connected to our Mega-Cloud storage drive, with Terabytes of storage immediately available to you anywhere. It will also carry our digital credit card and e-money that can only be accessed by a living fingerprint with a pulse rate that does not indicate extreme stress to discourage robberies. charlesrussell19745http://www.blogger.com/profile/08045445613115422711noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8454395156892785921.post-25382496607766675402019-11-13T14:38:00.001-08:002019-11-13T14:38:03.191-08:00Woodstock 1969 Essay -- essays research papers Woodstock ââ¬Ë69 Many large concerts occurred throughout America in the summer of 1969, but none were as well known and symbolic as Woodstock. Its message was clear; three days of Peace and Music. Its impact on Americaââ¬â¢s culture and society as well as its youth will not be forgotten for many years to come. à à à à à Four men named Michael Lang, Artie Kornfield, John Roberts, and Joel Rosenman originally established Woodstock. The menââ¬â¢s initial idea for the festival was to promote the idea of a new recording studio in Bethel, New York, which is where the event actually took place. (Jacksonville.net) Because of the extensive amount of rain that fell before and during Woodstock, the site was changed twice and ended up on Max Yasgurââ¬â¢s farm. (Bethelwoodstockmuseum.com) This resulted in the loss of preparation time. The stage had not been entirely put up and the sound system was dangerously assembled. There were many other problems that occurred as a result of the mud produced during the rain. Most of the gates and fences were not put up which allowed many people to enter the festival for free.(Jacksonville.net) The mud also created a major cleanup project after the festival ended. à à à à à Woodstock gathered an unexpectedly large attendance. Only 50,000 to 100,000 people were expected to arrive at the site. These numbers seemed small compared to the 400,000 to 500,000 people who converged on the area on August 15, 16, and 17 of 1969. (Websterââ¬â¢s) Many expected singers and bands could not arrive due to traffic backed up for miles along all the roads leading to the area. It was said that nearly one million people could have attended the concert if it had lasted longer. (Visi.com) Many recognized musicians preformed at the concert such as Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, and many others. (Home.columbus.rr.com) Truly by the first day, as the musicians looked out upon the vast crowd, they must have known that Woodstock was not going to be just another concert that would be forgotten. On the outside, Woodstock could just be considered another concert for the youth of the time to hear their favorite music, but it can be seen that it was much more than that. Although the music was a large part of the festival, there would be no reason for it to be remembered this long if that w... ...stock fans that made the trip to all three festivals bearing the ââ¬Å"Woodstockâ⬠name. It seemed that the other men and women that made up the rest of the audience were nearly all there to get drunk and destroy anything they could get their hands on. By the end of the concert, nearly all of the stage and equipment was destroyed. Women were raped and all souvenirs such as shirts and posters were stolen. (MTV Woodstock Uncensored) The acts displayed at Woodstock 99ââ¬â¢ could be summed up in two words: destructive force. It went beyond misguided violence to such a point as to bring down some of the original Woodstockââ¬â¢s glory. Unfortunately now when people think of Woodstock they will also think of the destruction that occurred during its latest attempt at recreation. Despite peopleââ¬â¢s desire to bring back the feeling of the original Woodstock, all that can remain is its effect on the people who experienced it and the affect on the culture they lived in. The concert was necessary to have because it eased tension in a time of history that was full of war and prejudices. Its stories will be told, some good, some bad, but the desire that people feel to experience it firsthand will never be lost. charlesrussell19745http://www.blogger.com/profile/08045445613115422711noreply@blogger.com0
